Color of Winter

There is a creation of nostalgia by repeating an action and being in a location over and over again. This is a place that existed before me, it was here before the city of Toronto, and it was even before there were any people. By returning to the same location, it rebuilds the space in my memory. Memory is distorted over time. Every time we go back to remember something we create it and change the details, replacing the original memory.

Oceanic Thinking

The sounds of water flowing, was important to place throughout the video as its integral to every aspect of the journey. The city of Toronto built over the land and Water. Rivers were forced underground and became drainage locations to send into Lake Ontario. High Park used to be a much more controlled area then it is now. Nature has now been allowed partially to retake some control, creating diverse habitats within the park. Throughout the walk were places where plants had grown through old concrete. All of this naturally helps remove pollutants from the water.

Desire Lines

Being alone in the park allowed me to really be in space and listen to the world around me. I took a lot of different audio recordings and overlaid them. The sounds of the park were condensed, the rustling of leaves, the stomping through the mud, the chirping and quacking all brought life to the path. It was super cold and i was walking around for like a few hours.

Throughout the whole journey was the under current (pun intended) of water. I sat and recorded the sound of flowing water. Just sitting for a time in the cold really changes your outlook on a space. The feelings of stress that built over time flowed away with the water.
